The Great Gatsby

Poster Design

University project

About:
For this project the assignment was to create my own posters to a play of my choice. One had to be a graphical version and the other merely typographical.

Copyright:
The original photo for the first poster is a stock image, everything else is created by me.

The first poster I designed for this play was inspired by the main character Jay Gatsby and his mysterious personality. The design reflects this vagueness by layering his portrait multiple times. The censor bar over his eyes symbolises that nobody knew Gatsby’s true self, as the human eyes stand for personality and identity.

The typographical design is based on Daisy, whom Gatsby is madly in love with. The letters are made up of daisy petals, referring to picking the petals off of a flower to determine whether “she loves me, or she loves me not.” This is exactly the predicament Jay Gatsby finds himself in throughout the story. He ends up going crazy trying to win Daisy over.
